Back to summertime

I should definitely just make a post at the beginning of every summer stating that I will barely be keeping up with my blog and will be back in September. BUT I cannot bring myself to make a post like that, since the summer is always full of so many events and special times...I have to just carve out a moment of time every week to post about my exciting life. :-)
So...what's new you might ask? So much it's hard to know where to begin!
I am home again, in Pennsylvania, working on the farm. The season started off at a nice slower pace, but just this week was the beginning of our CSA program, so life got crazy really fast.
Just a few pictures I have taken since being back: it's nice to be back on the farm!

The most amazing day!

Sunday I had the most amazing day ever! There were a few complications with my extension group, so me and Kelsey were picked up by some church members and taken to the church from their hometown.  While we were driving, they asked us if we had ever been to Palm Springs, CA. Of course we hadn't been, and when we admitted we had not been, they mentioned that maybe we could go that afternoon.
The afternoon rolled around and we left after the first church service was over.  It was only about an hour drive.  They took us to the tram! We went up the tram, which is sort of like a huge ski lift but with a tram car instead of the little ski seats.

It was pretty much amazing! I am looking forward to the next time I can go there.

Life post-graduation

This photo was taken before graduation! I'm still so excited to be a graduate, but I wish I could have taken a few more pictures...I was so busy saying goodbyes that I didn't really have a chance to take pictures.

I was able to say goodbye to my church family at MVBC on Sunday though. I had my last piano lesson with my student and she gave me this note. It absolutely made my day. I love teaching so much!

Hello, world of the Alumni!

I finished four years of school and got my Bachelors degree in music.
It was an eventful week to say the least.

This is me with my dear friend Sarah.  You'll see her more in future posts as I am going to be her bridesmaid in June!

A picture of me with my college mom/big sister.  I met Kaitlin My first week of school (at WCBC) in 2011...we've been very close ever since.  She and her family always invite me over when I need to get off campus, and I regularly babysit their children.  She means soo much to me!

It would be the sunniest day ever the day we had our graduation picture taken :D

And here I am, receiving my diploma! :)

And now, I can say I am pursuing my Masters degree in music and that I am an alumni of WCBC.

The final stretch

Well, we are in the final stretch...only four days left until I graduate. Today we received our graduation regalia! My pink hood is pretty cool. Of course, I can't post any pictures until the graduation day!
I began packing today, and have one more day of work. Finals are finished, classes are done, and I have only to finish strong! Seems like not long ago I was graduating from high school!

Let the guy be a gentleman!

Recently, I was overwhelmed with the thought that guys in today's society can be likened to pigs.  Before you think I am harsh and unnecessarily rude, I should say that I work at a fast food place and come across the type of men who fit this description to a "T."
I don't care to think this way about men in general, and of late, I have been thinking this only of the men who frequent fast food stores such as my place of employment.

In a recent bout of disgust for the behavior of the male gender at my work place, I vented to a co-worker, saying "Why do guys have to be so ungentlemanly and disgusting? Why don't they treat women with dignity and respect?! You're a guy, tell me what you think!"

His response came as a surprise. He said "I treat girls how I think they want to be treated."
I pried further..."How do you know how a girl wants to be treated?"
He said to me, "Lately I've noticed that most girls want to be treated the same as I treat guys. The last time I was at the store for instance...a woman was walking up to the door behind me, and so I opened the door for her.  She sneered at me and yelled 'What do you think I am? You think I can't open the door myself?! Chauvinist!'...that made me so mad I didn't want to open the door for a girl ever again. So now I just look for how she acts, you can tell if she wants to be treated like a girl or like another guy."
I sort of thought my co-worker was exaggerating, and he then proceeded to ask the other male co-workers who were nearby what their opinions were. Every one said the same thing.

This made me feel almost sick to my stomach. Here I was, wondering why guys were so disgusting and why they had so little respect for women, and it became clear that part of the reason was because of the strong feminism movement that has told today's society "women are the same as men, don't treat them like they are weaker or special."

I was slightly encouraged when my coworkers all told me "Since meeting you, I knew you weren't like that, so I've always tried to treat you respectfully" ...and they HAVE.

I'll gladly admit it to the world and anyone who wants to know: I'm a woman, and I am weaker than and more sensitive than the average guy. I don't want to live my life in competition with the male gender. I don't care to prove that I can do everything a guy can do. I am who God made me to be. Definitely a woman.  As upsetting as it is to meet a man who treats women like trash and with no respect, it is just as disgusting to me to know that there are women out there who are encouraging this behavior.

Let guys be gentlemen! Help to "train" them that it's okay to treat women respectfully and that there are some women out there who won't scream at him when he opens the door for her.
Just something I've learned recently.

The End is drawing nigh...

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  There are 16 days left until graduation!
I'll want to remember this time, so every day until graduation, I'm going to try to post something.  Someday when I am old, I'll enjoy reading back through the two weeks leading up to Graduation from college.
This picture is of my class progress.  As you can see, out of 128 required credits, I have completed 127!  I am currently scheduled for 10, so I am graduating for sure. :D

I am still working at McDonalds, teaching piano, traveling on the weekends to my extension church and keeping up with all of my homework and projects.  I'm excited to go home this summer though, and meet my new nephews and visit with family.
 16 days left!
