cows

I haven't posted for awhile! :)
Yesterday evening when I was done exercising, I went out to the barn. We just got a new heifer, so I was taking a look at her.
There was a really pretty sunset. It was SO nice outside, it felt like Spring!
This is our "youngest" member of the "family." I was bottle-feeding her. :)

The new cow we just got. She's really big for being just three months old.
We haven't named her yet.

This is a little steer that my Dad bought from someone. I think he is REALLY cute!! I don't think we've named him either.

This is the cow that Martha, Daniel, Mark, Katie and Ryan got Daddy for Christmas. She's getting big!
This is Chuck. :) He's our biggest cow. He's about two years old. I'm a little scared of him, because he's got those horns...:)

And this, of course, is not a cow. This is our Donkey, Missy. She's all by herself, surrounded by all those cows. We've had her for about twelve years or something. She's technically Katie's donkey, but we're keeping her at our house right now, since Katie doesn't have the room for her yet.

And that's it. :) Last night I went to see my Violin teacher's Senior Recital. It was fun. :)
And I guess that all for now. Until there's something more interesting to write about! :)

Today was a fun and not-so-fun day, all put together. This morning, Daddy went outside to the barn, and found that our cow was laying all stretched out (We found out before that when the cow is laying flat, that's not good). She was supposed to have a calf in about two weeks. Anyway, basically Daddy had to put the cow down because her delivery went all wrong and she wasn't going to live. So we were all pretty disappointed this morning. The cow was dead, and so was her calf...or at least we thought it was. Later in the morning, we were getting ready to go on a trip to Lancaster to see a Replica of the Tabernacle. A man from our church came to our house (they were going to ride with us), and asked Sarah and I if we knew that there was a little calf standing down in the pasture. We RAN out and there was the calf. It took Sarah, Daniel and I about 10 minutes to catch...It ran through the electric fence and everything. But anyway, that's the long version of saying that the calf WAS alive. We named her Annie. She's SO cute, and VERY spunky. :)

After we took care of Annie, we went to the Tabernacle. We went with a group from church. There was about 35-40 people there from our church.

This is inside the Tabernacle...The shew bread table is to the right, and the Golden candlesticks to the left.

This is the replica of the Brazen Alter and the Laver.

After we were done there, we went out to eat at the Star Buffet.

Daniel was trying Sushi for the first time...(I didn't try any, I was too chicken) he said it wasn't the best thing he ever ate. :)

So that was my eventful day.
In November last year, our other cow had died while she was calving. In that case though, the calf had died too. At least we still have Annie.
Well, Maybe I'll have more to post later! :)

Today Sarah and I made a trip into Mechanicsburg to get our x-ray files from a dentist that we went to two months ago. You don't know how glad I was to leave that place for good.
When we went there two months ago, We sat in the waiting room for about an hour before they called us back. Then we waited in the dentist room(whatever its called) for about two MORE hours. FINALLY, the Dentist came in, and checked our teeth in about ten minutes. She said that i had six cavities, and Sarah had three, not to mention Oral Cancer. After she was done checking our teeth, we went to the front desk, and the receptionist informed us that we were going to have to pay $80 for each cavity, AND that we both had to have our wisdom teeth cut out (They're not even IN yet). Anyway, so, we went back to our old dentist and he told us both that we had NO cavities at all and Sarah did NOT have Oral Cancer. So basically, Aspen Dental is full of quacks. I really wouldn't recommend them. Maybe its just the Mechanicsburg location though, I'm not sure...:)
This is Sarah, she was happy because we were leaving Aspen Dental.

After that, we went to my favorite clothes store, ROSS, to celebrate. :)
And then we went to a Party Store, because Sarah needed to pick up some stuff.

While I was there, I tried on some hats...this is me as a confederate Soldier.

Sarah

Me wearing a Camouflage Cowboy Hat...interesting...

Anyway, so not a very eventful day, but it was a happy day. :) No more Aspen Dental Care for us!!!:)

Junk Mail and Gettysburg :)

wow. That's really all I have to say to the colleges which keep contacting me. :) Seriously, I have gotten an average of ten emails a day from colleges. I don't even know which colleges they are, I just click "unsubscribe" on all of them. Yesterday, I got TEN letters (junk mail) from colleges. Its really kind of funny. Right now, our business, (Orchard Country Produce) is waiting to start planting: But while we wait, we're also getting CSA's, Which stands for Community Supported Agriculture. We're a part of this program. Basically, people pay up front a specified amount, and then when the season starts, we put fruits and vegetables into coolers and hand them out to these people at the markets we go to. It sounds confusing when I'm saying it, because I'm not good at explaining things...but its really not. :) Anyway, we've been getting these subscription forms in the mail. My brother Oliver LOVES opening them...so I try to "beat" him to the mailbox. :) Yesterday, he was almost positive that there would be TONS of CSA's in the mail, so he ran out to the mailbox. When he came back, he was disappointed. :) Instead, he handed me letter after letter of college mail. Anyway, I thought that was funny...:)

On Monday, I went to the new Visitor Center in Gettysburg. I hadn't been there since they put it up last year. Its pretty nice. We went to see the Cyclorama too...which was just a History video.

But anyway, you could say that I had really nothing to say in this post: But I really did. I just needed to say that I was ticked off at the colleges who keep sending me mail (when I SPECIFICALLY said I didn't want any). :)
I'll let you all go now, and talk to you later! ;)

Well, it seems like its been awhile...And I guess it has! :)
Not Much has happened this week. I've been doing school and all the normal things. On Wednesday, I was really sick (throwing up and all that) all day, so that was no fun. I even had to stay home from church, which I hate doing. On Thursday I was all better, and did school all day. Then yesterday (Friday) I went Ice Skating with Annana. It was my first time skating in a full-sized rink. But it was a LOT of fun! We skated for two HOURS and after I was done, my legs and ankles were SO sore!

I was able to get a few pictures of us skating.

On this one, I look like I'm running! :)

I had a really good time.
After I got home, I went straight to my Violin Lesson, where I passed one of my songs!!!!! The reason I'm so happy about that, is because it doesn't happen THAT often. :)
Anyway, here are some videos of us skating...Sorry they're sideways...Don't break your necks trying to see them! :) hahahaha

SATURDAY!

I had a great time today!:) I got up at 5:15 and started cleaning the house. After that I baked some cakes for desert. I had my friend Lisa over, so we had a blast! :)
In the morning, I was feeling kinda hyper or something... I wanted to see how frizzy my hair would get if I brushed it upside down.

This is how bad it got. :) pretty bad!
I was trying to go for the Crazy-Lady-In-Jane-Eyer-Movie look. :) You don't have to tell me, I know I'm weird. :)
The three musketeers? or Stooges? or something.

I made a Chocolate Cake then
My masterpieces: The Crumb cake (which I was sure was going to turn out wrong) and the Chocolate cake with Peanut Butter Icing.

Anyway, I had a great Day!
And just thought I'd share some of it with you all! :)

SCHOOL!

I've decided to dedicate this post to my school. :) Just to let you know exactly what I'm doing in school, day in and day out. :)
This, of course, is my favorite subject. Music. On the piano in this picture, there are three books.
The first, is a book of Fau're, which my teacher makes me play out of....its VERY grueling! :)
Next there is MY favorite book of Debussy.
And then, my teacher's book of Les Miserables (she's giving me a taste of playing Broadway)

My violin: I have yet to give it a name. :) and that, by its side, is my Violin Concerto Which is absolutely KILLING! Especially in the left hand. ;)

This is one subject that I feel I can do without! :) Algebra II...Yes, those papers are all full of my lovely chicken scratchings. :)

My science this year is Physics. I love Jay Wile, he's great, but Physics is just a little too much math for me.

One of my favorite subjects: Literature! I get to read classic books, and then do critical thinking courses on them. I just finished reading "Frankenstein." I almost cried when I read it, I felt so bad for the monster. :( It was a GREAT book though, and I enjoyed it!

This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE subject of all times! I think I like History even better than music. I was able to read this GREAT book (its on the left) called "Honor: A History." It was really good. I'm also studying world history, I just finished Rome. I watch video lectures as well. They're the best! :)

Languages:
I study Latin and Spanish for my Foreign Languages.
I LOVE Latin! I've been taking it for four years now. The only thing about it that I don't care for, is that the curriculum doesn't teach you to say "hello" to people, or "how are you doing?" They teach you to say, "The wolf fears the pitfall" and "One hand washes the other hand." It'd be a little odd to go up to someone and say "Hodie Mihi, Cras Tibi." (Death happens to me today, but it will happen to you tomorrow).
The only sentences I know that one could possibly tell someone else, are "Hilarem Datorem Diligit Deus" (God loves a Cheerful giver) and "Bonum Certamen Certavi, Cursum Consummavi, Fidem Servavi" (I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith).
But all the same, I enjoy learning it. :)

I enjoy Spanish! I do Video episodes. They follow the story of a lawyer (Raquel Rodriguez) working with her client. :) Its really interesting. :) and funny.

Geography:
I'm studying world Geography. Its one of those Fun subjects that give me a break from Physics and Math. :)

And Last, but not least,
Bible. I'm listening to Cassette tapes of Dr. Harold Wilmington. He basically goes through the Bible book by book, and teaches from it. Much like a Pastor I suppose, but he does more lecturing than anything else. Right now, I'm finishing up Paul's Latter Epistles, so, I'm nearly done the Bible. :)

Those are my school subjects this year.
I've just been signed up to take the SAT in March, so I'm a little scared about that. The SAT is harder than the PSAT (I think) which I've taken twice. So, I'll have to add Studying for the SAT to my list of school. ;) Oh YAY! :)
Well, that's it for now. I'll write again soon!

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Well, its February! Finally! I thought it wouldn't come soon enough.
I've been doing normal things for the past week. School, music lessons, church etc.
There still isn't too much going on. I am excited because in two weeks, my church is taking a trip to Lancaster to see the replica Tabernacle. So, I'm looking forward to that.
It snowed here last night although I'm still not sure how much we got.
Last week, I had my first experience driving in the snow. It was fun! I was almost positive that I was going to get hit when I was in town, though. The parking is terrible with all of those snow banks! :)
Since I don't have anything NEW to write about, I just thought I'd put up these few pictures of my dog, Homer.
He's eight years old (in human years) and his hair is just starting to turn white. :) Technically, I guess he's 56 years old in dog years. :) So, that's not bad!
In this picture, I had snuck up on him while he was sleeping.

He must have been digging in the gardens in this picture, because his nose is dirty. :)
Anyways,
So, hopefully I'll have more to write about next time!
I hope that you all have a great week!
